Residents of Isikiti/Umunichi quarters in Isheagu Community, Aniocha South Local Government Area have appealed to Delta State Government to construct the monkey bridge connecting tham to other parts of Isheagu community as the wooden bridge posed serious danger on both children and the elderly.
Residents also commend Delta State Government for constructing the Isheagu road but emphasized on the dangers the wooden monkey bridge posed of the people and apparently cut off from the the community.
The Pointer gathered from reliable source that several times, the wooden bridge collapsed and got people injured, while strangers lost their toddlers, though the quarters through self help try to provide safety at the bridge.
Responding, Mr Clifford Uche, who is a farmer and resident of Isikiti quarter stressed that most times, they (farmers) find it difficult to transport their farm produce to other side of Isheagu because the bridge is in a bad condition.


Mr Uche confirmed the tireless efforts of the youths of both quarters to maintain and sustain the wooden bridge but the efforts in place is not enough, 'there is serious need for government intervention' he said.
Another Resident who did not want his name to be mentioned apportioned blames on PDP ward 9 Leaders in Aniocha South Local Government Area, saying that they only use the bridge on election period as they campaign with empty promises.
The source expressed dismay on the level of development in the community at this level of democracy in Nigeria, he disclosed that Isikiti/Umuneche quarters are predominantly farmers and populated with over 8000 families, all PDP members and eligible voters.
He wondered why the community had not gotten electricity, the people have no access to portable drinking water, they solely depend on Iyete stream for domestic activities, adding that the road leading to Oloh-Ossisa has turned to a bush path road.
The source said that living condition in the area is very harsh, as the people must cross the Iyete stream before accessing the other part of the community, adding that as the rain approaches, the risk involve gets high, and flood may likely dispose them of their homes this year.
Meanwhile, one Ikem Okonji told our correspondent that the monkey bridge has existed for more than 40years, stressing that it has posed dangers on the rural dwellers, as most times people fall inside the stream either for the fear of gravity or they matched the weak wooden logs used as bridge.
Okonji commended the efforts of Isheagu Development Union (IDU), Sons and Daughters of the community, especially Hon. Jerry Ossai on whose efforts had been visible in sustaining the breach which is the only entrance to Isikiti/Umuenechi quaters of Isheagu community.
In the same vein, Engr. Johnson Okolo said that state government has little work to do as source of water is very close to the people, adding that government cannot spend much in providing portable drinking water to the people as long as there is steady power supply of electricity which the people saw last in 2006
